Can I use an electronic cigarette on a plane?

pilote vapote avec sa cigarette électronique

Just a few years ago, the question of whether or not to consume conventional cigarettes was still being raised, but now the electronic cigarette is following suit. While it may have been more or less accepted in a large number of places at the start of its advent, now it's being turned away from them!

What about electronic cigarettes on planes? Liquidbox answers.

Flying with your electronic cigarette

It is perfectly possible to travel with your electronic cigarette The same applies to trains, subways, cabs and so on. On the other hand, being an electronic device, it is subject to certain strict safety rules.

Here are the ones you need to follow when you're in the air:

  • No smoking in the cabin,
  • Only 2 batteries or 2 accumulators are allowed,
  • Batteries are not accepted in the hold,
  • Electronic cigarette recharging prohibited in the cabin,
  • A maximum of 1 liter of e-liquid is accepted,
  • Authorization to transport your e-liquids in the hold and in the cabin.

Vaping is not allowed in the cabin, quite simply because it can be very annoying for other travelers who don't use tobacco. Although you're inhaling indirectly and producing very little vapour, being in an enclosed space is not a good idea. produces many more !

This can lead to poor air and oxygen quality, and poor visibility. What's more, if you don't want to set off the smoke detectors, hold back.

Electronic cigarette vaping for air travel

It's forbidden to vapourize your electronic cigarette on the plane, but in theory it's not forbidden to use it in airports. In fact, according to the French regulationsCovered public places open to the public can authorize smoking! It's up to those in charge to decide whether or not to allow it.

Before taking the plunge, however, we recommend that you check that there are no signs prohibiting you from doing so. Otherwise, you could be fined €450. What's more, to avoid any misunderstandings, and to be absolutely certain that you're in the clear, talk to our staff or read the house rules!

In all cases, respect the smoking areas; they are there to help you board the plane with peace of mind.

Can you travel with your e-liquids?

Yes, you can take your electronic cigarette and e-liquids with you on the plane. Generally speaking, airlines allow you to carry around 1 liter of liquid, which must be stored in a transparent plastic pouch.

For this purpose, the must not exceed 100 ml ! The rule is the same as for creams, shampoos or toothpastes.

What's more, e-liquids can't withstand pressure, so flying with one or more of them is a risk you're taking, since it can lead to leaks. So make sure your container is securely closed and waterproof. Don't hesitate to double seal it, if necessary. with an airtight bag !

Ideally, when you're flying, you shouldn't fill your electronic cigarette clearomizer, or only fill it a little, so that it doesn't overflow under pressure. Forget about dripping liquid on your fingers after your 10-hour flight...

While e-cigarette vaping is forbidden on airplanes, the same is not necessarily true of other forms of public transport... However, it is still very much possible. So we advise you always to check your information before taking your device out, to avoid fines!
