The History of E-Liquid
The first e-cigarette, which some people also call an electronic cigarette, was invented in 1963 by Herbert A. Gilbert. He even filed the industry’s first patent in 1965. However, he never brought his invention to market.
It wasn’t until 2010 that a patent for a smoke-free, electronic vaporizer cigarette was filed by a Chinese engineer named Hon Lik. He wanted to find an alternative to the traditional cigarette. In fact, he had been trying unsuccessfully for years to quit smoking. Furthermore, his father died of lung cancer in 2003.
Of course, the e-cigarettes available today are much more advanced models. They are the successors to a more practical e-cigarette model invented by David Yungiang Xiu in 2009. The Differences Between Cigarettes and E-Cigarettes

Very different compositions
To begin with, the fundamental difference lies in the composition of a cigarette and e-liquid.
Smoking a cigarette may seem like a harmless act. However, the combustion of tobacco produces substances that are toxic to the body. These include:

Heavy metals (cadmium, mercury, lead)
But also toxic gases (carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia)
As well as acids (benzoic, acetic, carbonic, etc.)
Ultimately, smokers inhale more than 7,000 different chemical compounds, at least 70 of which are classified as carcinogens.
All of these toxic substances are very different from what is found in e-liquid. This is easily explained by the AFNOR standard, which strictly regulates the composition of e-liquid. The following toxic substances are therefore prohibited: propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin that is not of pharmaceutical grade, colorants, diacetyl, and synthetic nicotine.

We can therefore objectively conclude that these compositions are indeed very different.
The Impact of Cigarettes on Health
These significant differences in the design of cigarettes and e-liquid inevitably have a far-reaching impact on health.
