What is eliquid?
You're probably familiar with vaporizers. They're made up of a few simple components, including a battery, a tank and a resistor. The eliquid is simply the product that creates the vapor in these devices. To do this, the resistance of the vaporizer heats the liquid in the tank, which then enables you to vapot serenely.
Eliquid is an electronic cigarette liquid composed of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine. Variable amounts of nicotine and various flavors can be added.
The history of eliquid
The first vaporizer, also known as an electronic cigarette, was invented in 1963 by Hebert A. Gilbert. He even filed the industry's first patent in 1965. However, he never commercialized his creation.
It wasn't until 2010 that a patent for an electronically-sprayed smokeless cigarette was filed by a Chinese engineer by the name of Hon Lik. He wanted to find an alternative to conventional cigarettes. For years, he had been trying unsuccessfully to give up smoking. What's more, his father died of lung cancer in 2003.
Of course, the electronic cigarettes available today are much more advanced models. They are heirs to a more practical model of vaporizer invented by David Yungiang Xiu in 2009. Here, operation is based on a resistor that heats the product inserted in the device. This makes electronic cigarettes much easier to use.

The differences between cigarettes and vaporizers
We feel it's important to emphasize the important differences between a cigarette and a vaporizer. Indeed, although the term electronic cigarette is often used, the vaporizer is far from being a cigarette.
Very different compositions
To begin with, the fundamental difference lies in the composition of a cigarette and eliquid.
Smoking a cigarette may seem like a harmless gesture. But burning tobacco produces substances that are toxic to the body. These include :
Tars
Heavy metals (cadmium, mercury, lead)
But also toxic gases (carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, hydrocyanic acid, ammonia).
As well as acids (benzoic, acetic, carbonic, etc.)
In the end, smokers inhale over 7,000 different chemical compounds, at least 70 of which are classified as carcinogenic.
All these toxic products are far removed from what is found in eliquid. This is easily explained by the AFNOR standard. The latter strictly regulates the composition of eliquid. The following toxic products are prohibited: propylene glycol or vegetable glycerine which are not of pharmaceutical quality, colorants, diacetyl or synthetic nicotine.
In concrete terms, here is the composition of the eliquid you can find in vaporizers:

We can therefore objectively deduce that these compositions are very different indeed.
The impact of cigarettes on health
These major disparities in cigarette and eliquid design inevitably have a far-removed impact on health.
Sadly, smoking is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in France. Every year, almost 75,000 people die from smoking, including 33,000 from lung cancer.
